| Backlights at The Rock Shop | April 6, 2011 | 10:14 am |
|
I don’t like shopping, but I do like The Rock Shop. Mostly because I don’t have to shop there. Actually I’m allowed to play on their stage with Backlights, like I did last night, which is pretty neat. The staff is super nice and the sound and backline are great (thanks Paul!). Here’s a song we captured with our voice recorder from last night: - tyler |

| Last night’s show at Spike Hill | December 15, 2010 | 03:39 pm |

Hey folks, thanks for coming out. Y’all looked fabulous in your winter attire! Sunny Breezes – That’s last night’s performance of our newest song. It came right after a super-long break between songs (2 mins 7 seconds!) due to the failure of the house kick pedal. I had to replace it with my own, which, for some reason, took an exorbitant amount of time to do. Strange that it only felt like 15 seconds! It must have been the Fezziwig Ale that dulled my senses to the point where I totally lost track of time. Anyway, Joe, I owe you one. The opening band were The Isles, who have been around for a few years, but I think they have a new lineup. The drummer had a nice, soft touch, as evidenced by his failure to destroy the equipment, like I nearly did, or push the bass drum off the stage, like the drummer from the last band, The Clox, was about to do, before he got up and moved it back into position. He actually had to do that after every single song, so it became sort of a gag by the end of their set. The soundman ultimately admitted, “We need to get a bigger brick.” I’ll say! All in all, ’twas a fun, wintery evening. Thanks to everyone for coming out, and thanks again to Spike Hill! We’re currently booking shows for January, so stay tuned! |

| Bruar Falls | May 11, 2010 | 08:51 pm |

Sunday night was one for the ages. We played a free show at Bruar Falls the way shows ought to be: with handpicked friends filling out the line up! Last King of England opened the evening with gusto and Boyd Shropshire followed us with a gorgeous set. Bob, our portable recording device, recorded snippets of our show from the soundbooth. Here’s a new song we debuted at the show called “Lanterns”: listen to the mp3 while you read and viddy the pictures.. Here’s Last King of England, who kindled the Sunday evening fires with solo songs, then shifted gears half-way into the set when our own Tyler backed him up on drums and Collin (Last Year’s Model) manned the keyboard-bass for some blood-pumping punk. Then we did our thing! We enjoyed some great sound stewardship from soundperson Isabella. We also enjoyed the enigmatic blessings of the Artist formerly known as Prince (we didn’t ask questions about the deco and neither should you). Boyd Shropshire took over after us: Boyd was cool enough to accept our invitation to play this show with us, and was flanked by pals Chase on guitar and backing vocals and Stirling on lap steel and bass. Backlights are big fans of what Boyd & Co are doing. They played cavernous, psyche-flooding songs full of meandering imagery and devilishly original vocal harmonies. Look at me losing myself to verbosity just trying to describe it. And a good lap steel player can put me in a real tizzy. Which I was in. – So thanks to all who came out, thanks to Angelina Yang for the photos, and we hope you all had a Happy Mother’s Day. PS: Album soon! |
