So, now that you’ve thoroughly questioned our methods… November 2, 2011 | 09:10 pm

Go get our newest song!

http://backlights.bandcamp.com/

What do you think of our methods now, hm? Doesn’t really matter that we position our mics with toilet paper, does it? The next time you reach for the TP, maybe you should think about that. Heck, you might even listen to this song while you’re doing it! Remember— Backlights guarantee to make every experience more enjoyable™.

Oh, but there’s more. This here is a clip from our performance at the Indie Darkroom’s Four Foot Studios. Head over to their site and rate our songs! Create an account while you’re at it, and become a fan of our band!

homemade old fashioned May 3, 2011 | 08:16 pm

So this has nothing much to do with the band but I figure it’s not really a stretch for this here blogg, where Joe has been sake-bloggin like there is no tomorrow. And to good effect, for sure.

Up there is my first attempt at an old fashioned. I’m pretty sure that my choice of scotch was my first mistake- something I realized after I added more soda and bitters to soften things up. The Glenrothes 1985 single speyside malt scotch whisky just doesn’t play well with others. It juggernauts anything standing in it’s way and kicks you on the way down to send the message home that you should never mix it with anything ever again as long as you live. I really should have known better, but when I’m alone in the kitchen, I really can’t help myself. I start touching things and before I know it, I have orange juice in my cereal and the aforementioned scotch in my coffee.

Next time I’ll use the Basil Hayden’s and it will be pure gold.

Backlights at The Rock Shop April 6, 2011 | 10:14 am

I don’t like shopping, but I do like The Rock Shop. Mostly because I don’t have to shop there. Actually I’m allowed to play on their stage with Backlights, like I did last night, which is pretty neat. The staff is super nice and the sound and backline are great (thanks Paul!). Here’s a song we captured with our voice recorder from last night:
07-Lanterns
Goldenboy played after us and they were pretty awesome. We totally dug the guitarist and her performance with the Gibson SG. We wish them luck on the rest of their tour!
Ok, that’s all, for now.
::: Come see us on Tuesday, April 26th at Cameo Gallery! :::

Last night’s show at Spike Hill December 15, 2010 | 03:39 pm

Hey folks, thanks for coming out. Y’all looked fabulous in your winter attire!

Sunny Breezes – That’s last night’s performance of our newest song. It came right after a super-long break between songs (2 mins 7 seconds!) due to the failure of the house kick pedal. I had to replace it with my own, which, for some reason, took an exorbitant amount of time to do. Strange that it only felt like 15 seconds! It must have been the Fezziwig Ale that dulled my senses to the point where I totally lost track of time. Anyway, Joe, I owe you one.

The opening band were The Isles, who have been around for a few years, but I think they have a new lineup. The drummer had a nice, soft touch, as evidenced by his failure to destroy the equipment, like I nearly did, or push the bass drum off the stage, like the drummer from the last band, The Clox, was about to do, before he got up and moved it back into position. He actually had to do that after every single song, so it became sort of a gag by the end of their set. The soundman ultimately admitted, “We need to get a bigger brick.” I’ll say!

All in all, ’twas a fun, wintery evening. Thanks to everyone for coming out, and thanks again to Spike Hill! We’re currently booking shows for January, so stay tuned!

wtf hippie June 7, 2010 | 09:01 pm

I like this album cover because it has that real wtf charm.  It is there to remind you that there are sensationally absurd things going on all around you all the time.  I especially like the expressions on the three hippies’ faces.  It places them somewhere, but also nowhere in particular at the same time.  They are suspended in GBV’s bizzaro universe.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for myself, circa 2004:

give me some of those cacao nibs, bro
